It dawned on me that we are in a new phase of photographic art where the need to be/ “appear” real is affecting and has been encroached into commercial territories. But what is true authenticity to you? Do you lose once you keep your eye from it. None the less ponder that while my novice photography skills tickle your fancy.
I suck a lot of the times but sometimes I’m good (in my own opinion) people ought to be more critical. I welcome all critiques even if I will disagree with it.
The first issue of this project I introduced a brief take on who Matt is how a young ambitious musician with an ear to the ground, hell bent on metal is now a prominent producer and key to the forefront of underground music scenes in Toronto, and Canada at large.
I (GERM) am charachterized by “G:” I’m red-violet.
Matt Avenins is “M:”

As September comes to a close and the decay of Autumn is tightening its grip at every dusk and dawn. The distant arctic breeze howls through the quiet streets approaching nearer and nearer the season of harvest, maturity, rest and change. Heraclitus said, “The only constant is change”. For now Fall has arrived, so I take this time of quiet to reflect on the end of summer so we may bring in the next phase of life.
I was a volunteer during the madness that is TIFF. I had a blast, and my life was a little wild during those days.
I haven’t updated the blog in the past couple of weeks because of it and my sleep schedule has been hardly maintained. A lot of late nights early mornings little to no sleep, all for the love of the art of ‘Motion Picture’!
I’m sure many people all over the net have covered some of these topics but in case you are interested here are some films/programs that I saw.
I delve right into a quick review and my honest opinion.
Stolkhome (Directed by Daniel Syrkin, photo credit: Ronen Ackerman)
Set in Israel a life long group of friends find their friend dead in his bed. He was up for possibly winning a Nobel prize.
Good screenplay, yet careless. Had a tinge of poor taste humour of arabic peoples.
most people might find this boring.
If Beale Street Could Talk (Director: Barry Jenkins, Cinematographer: James Layton)
Adaptation of the novel by James Baldwin.
It’s a period film set during the early 70’s in Harlem taking a close look at Black-American youth.
Beautiful cinematography as well as set-dec, and costume/hair & make-up.
Honest & thought provoking.
The Lie (Director: Veena Sud Cinematographer: Peter Wunstorf)
An American remake of a German film called ‘Wir Monster’.
Divorced parents faced with the weight of protecting their teen child from the hard consequences of a grave mistake she had made.
Entertaining full of thrill.
An elusive film by french film-makers and cast. This film has a post-apocalyptic-like setting in which an unknown antagonist entity referred to as the ‘special forces’ target a pack of menacing boys who are constantly on the run. Their leader Jessica acts as their surrogate mother offering them recluse from the harshness of reality of the world they left behind.
Think critically and draw conclusion of your own when watching this film, less of a narrative and more of a statement.
A war reporter who survived being a hostage in Syria goes to India to deal with his PTSD. He copes by developing a relationship with the daughter of his godfather. The affair offers him solace but challenges his morale compass being over 10 years senior of someone so close to his childhood life.
Le Livre d’Image ‘The Imge Book (Directed by Jean-Luc Goddard)
A pastiche like collage in the vein of dadaist spirit. This to me is a politically and social commentary charged in the blatant one liners the way you would read lyrics to a Dead Kennedy’s track. This film can easily receive negative criticism for its anti-convention and approach to film making, which is as much as you can expect from the seasoned art réalisateur.
‘The Man Who Feels No Pain’ Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota (Director: Vasan Bala, Cinematographer: Jay I. Patel)
What do you get when you mix classic Bollywood with Chinese new wave kung fu action.
A whole lot of entertainment matched with a fun plot that has you cheering the whole way through!
Colombian crime drama about tradition, roots, greed and culture.
A remote area of Colombia takes mystical belief and magic intertwined with a man trying to provide for his people through drug trafficking. The film deals with the fate of many families and cultures losing their place in an ever-changing time, along with the erasure of tradition.
Beautiful and emotional. Complicated course of events. THis film is a must watch if you are into films that open dialogue.
Following a mass shooting a group of highly trained militia men assemble at their secret head-quarters to find an AR-15 missing from their Armoury. In fear that their weapon will trace the police to them they turn on each other and a complicated course of events plays out to reveal the truth.
The film centers on a seemingly ordinary British family of a single mother and adolescent son. The mother finds herself at a department store and is urged to buy a dress during a winter sale. The dress is possessed and the horrific action ensues is a must see based alone on the absurdity of it. The colours and photography evoke the imagery of films like A Clockwork Orange, and the perverseness of it also gave me a feel of Eyes Wide Shut. I was also half asleep during midnight madness so I’m not sure why I kept thinking I was watching a film Death Bed: The Bed The Bed That Eats (insert ‘Dress’ for ‘Bed’) directed by the ghost of Stanley Kubrick.
Based on a memoir by Garrard Conley recounting the experiences of being found gay in a religious family deep in the heart of the south.
It is a film with the intention on bringing to light the horrific experience of being in conversion therapy.
A crowd pleaser receiving standing ovation. Heartfelt and social stirring topics.
Nearing the end
